1947 was the year when the young fashion designer Christian Dior launched his revolutionary couture collection on the Paris runway. It was also the year, he famously asked Perfumer Jean Carles, “to make me a fragrance that smells like love” … and the luminous white floral Miss Dior was born. Even today it is one of the most beloved feminine perfumes of all time. Miss Dior was named for the designer’s sister Catherine and is the liquid expression of the sexy silhouettes of “The New Look”, which established Paris as the fashion capital of the world. For the House of Dior, style and scent have gone hand in hand ever since. Post World War II was a time when women (and men) wanted glamour, not only in what they wore on their bodies but what they sprayed on their pulse points. During the 20th century Christian Dior perfumes were targeted to chic women (and their men), who wanted beautiful scents as well as clothing. The Dior perfume company wisely used the brand name in the title of many of its fragrances as it brought designer cache without a hefty price tag.
